Northern Arizona University’s admissions office determines your residency status after receiving your completed application for admission.
The decision is based on information in the application, transcripts, and other documents required for admission. This residency status remains in effect until you either fulfill the requirements for residency and petition for a change in classification or lose resident status by living outside Arizona with the intent to become a resident of another state. We automatically review your residency status after you have been absent from the university for more than three terms and then reapply to Northern Arizona University.
If you believe you have been incorrectly classified and you desire to change your out-of-state classification, you must do so by filing a petition no later than the last day of regular course enrollment for the term for which you are seeking to change classification.
If your petition is denied and you wish to appeal that decision, you must submit your appeal in writing no later than 35 days after the last day of regular course enrollment. You have the right to appear and testify at a hearing before the review committee and to be represented by an advisor at your own expense. You should obtain a copy of the Arizona Board of Regents’ residency classification policies before filing a request for review. Failure to file a petition or an appeal by the designated date results in a waiver of your right to a review.
If you are found to have made false or misleading statements about your residency or tuition status, you are subject to dismissal from Northern Arizona University.
