Lesson Description:

This guided reading lesson is designed for Structured English Immersion, second grade level students.  This informational reading selection explores a catalog of goods identifying the countries of origin.  It also taps into different modes of transportation used to move goods from one place to another.  This reading experience is linked to Social Studies and introduces the concept of import and export of goods in the United States.  In order to make the reading selection comprehensible, it is recommended that students posses prior knowledge of the continents location in order to relate to the product's origin.  The reading selection was borrowed from Harcourt Brace Social Studies: Making the Difference, which is the curriculum for Social Studies in the Calexico Unified School District.
