Arizona Energy Consortium's Energy Roadmap and Solar Strategic Plan
Michelle De Blasi, Attorney, Gammage & Burnham
The Arizona Energy Consortium (AEC), a group of energy organizations and businesses in the region, reviewed its Energy Roadmap and Solar Strategic Plan. Both encourage a balanced portfolio with an increase in solar energy development-an opportunity for Arizona's tribes. [See Resources for AEC's and the State of Arizona's energy road maps.]

Financial Modeling for the Jemez Solar Project
Tom Acker, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Northern Arizona University
NAU's Mechanical Engineering Department has been helping the Jemez Tribe in New Mexico to assess the economics of various configurations for a solar project using the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's System Advisor Model (SAM). We saw how the model can be used to help tribes plan and size a project, and what type of data is needed to inform the model.

Transmission Overview
Patrick Harwood, Transmission Planning Engineer, Western Area Power Administration
The Southwest Area Transmission (SWAT) group is a collaboration of utilities, consultants and developers who plan and build the high voltage transmission system that moves electricity around Arizona and the region. We learned about transmission in place and in the planning stage.
