The Choctaw Nation Department of Environmental Sustainability proposes a partnership with the City of McAlester and Republic Waste to offer a single stream curbside recycling program. Single stream recycling is the process where all recyclable materials are placed in a single container, thus relieving the homeowner from the task of separating the materials into separate containers. The City of McAlester single stream process will include at a minimum Plastics 1, 2 & 5, Aluminum/Metal, Cardboard, Magazines, Phone Books, Junk Mail, Styrofoam, Newspaper and Shredded Paper. The proposal includes advantages and disadvantages.
