This lesson will be introducing 1st grade students to the 5-Step Scientific Experiment through actual participation in a hands-on experiment on cactus.  It is important for students to gain a better understanding of how desert plants such as the cactus survive in harsh climates and to recognize that these types of plants go through various adaptations to accommodate these harsh conditions.  This lesson incorporates science, reading, and writing through the use of verbal, visual, and tactile learning modalities.  Student's interest levels will remain high as they discover new information about cacti for themselves.
