Introduction: The unit focuses on family celebrations. Our student population is predominately Hispanic, and family is traditionally valued in the Hispanic culture. The family theme allows
students to build on prior knowledge and experiences. This lesson about birthdays provides several concrete opportunities for learning through a variety of modalities. The incorporation of music, visuals, realia,
and active learning engages the CLDE learner and provides opportunities for language learning and language comprehension.
