This lesson will be introducing students to the concept of supporting a Thesis Statement. It is essential, as a student moves on to secondary school (high school), that a student not only know what a Thesis Statement is (the definition), but also that a student knows how to use and support the Thesis Statement in an essay. The student will also learn how to write effective body paragraphs using topic sentences and concrete details. Although this lesson will be specific to persuasive essay writing (presumably in a Language Arts setting), this lesson is cross-curricular because a Thesis Statement can be used to write a paper in any type of curriculum setting.
