Below is a
summary of the information you may enter when adding or modifying a group.
Group Name There are two types of groups.
Organizational groups are defined and used by university schools, colleges,
departments, etc. The name consists of two or three parts separated by hyphens:
an organization abbreviation, an optional area or team abbreviation, and a
user-defined name. Personal groups consist of two parts: the word "MYGROUP"
followed by a user defined name.
Description Use the description to describe
the nature and purpose of the group.
Owners You are automatically an owner of any
group you create. You may add other people or groups as owners if you wish.
Owners have the power to modify or delete the group.
Members You are automatically a member of any
group you create. You may add other people or groups as members of your
group.
Excluded People/Groups
You may designate people or groups to be excluded from membership in your
group. For example, if you have included another group as one of your
members, you may wish to exclude one or more individuals who belong to that
group from membership in your group. You would do this by adding those
individuals to your excluded people. Then, everyone in the included group
except those individuals you have excluded will be members of your group.
Group ID A unique numeric group id is
automatically generated for each group that is created. The Group ID is used
for administrative purposes.
Original Group Creator
When a group is created, the person who created the group is automatically
stored as the Original Group Creator.
