Lesson Description:

This lesson will be introducing students to child labor in the United States during the latter half of the 19th century and early half of the 20th century through the use of a story written in 1914.  It is essential for the students to experience learning through the use of realistic objects and actions.  Through the story the students will be able to answer questions and understand the conditions children experienced in the factories.  This is the social studies lesson included in a thematic unit on cotton.  The other lessons in the unit are:  fashion design, music, reading, and math.
